Per ESPN’s Andrew Marchand, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is no longer feeling pain in his injured quadriceps. He thinks he may be able to return by next Saturday, when the Yankees play the Rays. Manager Joe Girardi isn’t as hopeful.

“I guess anything is possible,” Girardi said. “I guess the biggest hurdle that he would have to clear is running. I wouldn’t rule it out. I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent sure he will be able to come back”.

Jeter thought he might take batting practice where he swings on Monday.

Jeter made his 2013 debut on July 11 after recovering from an ankle injury. He went 1-for-4 with an RBI, then went back on the DL with a strained right quad.
