MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick reports that the Dodgers have signed pitcher Erik Bedard to a minor league deal.
Bedard, 36 in March, spent the 2014 season with the Rays, compiling a 4.76 ERA and a 64/29 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings over 15 starts and two relief appearances. The lefty’s once-promising career was derailed by injuries, as he has mustered only 119 starts in the seven seasons dating back to 2008, an average of 17 starts per season.
Bedard hasn’t been effective over the last few years, carrying a 4.78 ERA in 352 1/3 innings since the beginning of the 2012 season, but the Dodgers will hope to catch lightning in a bottle.
