UPDATE: Bad news for New Yorkers. According to the Associated Press, Cablevision and News Corp. have walked away from the negotiation table for the evening, meaning that millions will miss tonight’s Game 1 of the NLCS between the Giants and Phillies. Cablevision spokesman Jim Maiella says negotiators plan to meet again Sunday. Basically, you have 30 minutes to track down an antenna, head down to a bar or enjoy the game the old-fashioned way -- on the radio.
12:38 PM: Psyched for tonight’s must-see Game 1 matchup between Tim Lincecum and Roy Halladay? Me too. Too bad millions of Cablevision subscribers -- mostly those in the New York area -- could be shut out from watching.
Craig first informed us of the re-transmission dispute between News Corp. and Cablevision the other day and with the two sides unable to come to an agreement before their existing contract expired at the end of the day Friday, FOX stations have disappeared from Cablevision homes. According to the Associated Press, the blackout affects Fox 5 and My9 in New York and Fox29 in Philadelphia.
According to the New York Times, negotiations are scheduled to resume at noon today. They could still work something out. Remember, there’s also football, glorious football at stake tomorrow. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to pull out the old bunny ears, or heck, if you own an HDTV, test out a digital antenna.
