Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano has been scratched from Wednesday’s start against the Tigers due to discomfort in his right hamstring, the club announced on Tuesday. Ryan Vogelsong will make a spot start in Liriano’s absence.

Liriano shut out the Cardinals over six innings in his Opening Day start, then surrendered three runs in five innings against the Reds last Friday.

Vogelsong lost the battle for the Pirates’ fifth spot in the starting rotation to Juan Nicasio, who was on the hook for four runs in three innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Tigers.
