Gary Sanchez will undergo surgery on his left shoulder this offseason. That was the word from Brian Cashman at the General Manager Meetings yesterday.

The surgery is remove loose debris which has been bothering him for some time. It will put him on the shelf for three months, but he is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Sanchez played in just 89 games during the 2018 season thanks to a groin injury. It was not a great season: he hit only .186/.291/.406 with 18 home runs and 53 RBI. The Yankees have not lost confidence in him, however, with Cashman saying earlier this week that he still believes Sanchez can be and will be one of the best hitters in his lineup going forward.

Having a healthy shoulder will no doubt help that.
