Arizona just announced that utility man Geoff Blum will likely miss 6-8 weeks following knee surgery, although Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that an official return timetable won’t be set “until doctors see the extent of the damage.”
Kirk Gibson revealed that it won’t be microfracture surgery, which qualifies as good news. Blum has been sidelined since mid-March.
In one of his first moves as general manager Kevin Towers gave Blum a two-year, $2.7 million deal, which raised eyebrows as a multi-year commitment and surprising amount of money to a 38-year-old career-long utility man who hit .267 with a .678 OPS in 2010 and has topped a .700 OPS once since 2003.
