The Giants announced on Monday afternoon that the club activated reliever Sergio Romo from the disabled list, optioned pitcher Albert Suarez to Triple-A Sacramento, and designated pitcher Michael Broadway for assignment.

Romo, 33, has been out since mid-April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. He was rehabbing in late May but experienced fatigue and was shut down, prolonging his absence. Prior to the injury, he had allowed a run on one hit and one walk with one strikeout in 3 1/3 innings.

Though Romo has lost his role as the Giants’ closer over the last two seasons, he has still proven to be a reliable reliever. His return should be a nice boost for the bullpen.
