Giants place Buster Posey on the disabled list

Arizona Diamondbacks v San Francisco Giants

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - APRIL 10: Buster Posey #28 of the San Francisco Giants sits on the ground and is checked on by manger Bruce Bochy #15 and trainer Dave Groeschner after Posey was hit in the head with a pitch in the bottom of the first inning at AT&T Park on April 10, 2017 in San Francisco, California. Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that the Giants have placed catcher Buster Posey on the seven-day concussion disabled list. The Giants have called up catcher Tim Federowicz and designated Clayton Blackburn.

Posey was hit in the head with a Taijuan Walker fastball on Sunday afternoon against the Diamondbacks. He was immediately removed from the game and underwent concussion protocol. Posey reportedly felt fine on Monday, but the Giants are understandably playing it safe.

Nick Hundley will handle the lion’s share of work behind the plate with Federowicz backing him up while Posey is out.
