CSN Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic reports that the Giants have placed starter Jake Peavy on the disabled list due to a lower back injury. To take Peavy’s place on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled Andrew Susac from Triple-A Sacramento.
Peavy was unable to reach the fifth inning in each of his first two starts. He owns a 9.39 ERA with a 7/4 K/BB ratio in 7 2/3 innings. The right-hander has been dealing with back problems since the start of the regular season but tried to avoid a stint on the DL.
The Giants re-signed Peavy, 34 at the end of May, to a two-year, $24 million contract in December.
