Last month Kevin Cash left his gig as the Indians’ bullpen coach to replace Joe Maddon as the Rays’ manager and now Cleveland has replaced him with Jason Bere.
In joining manager Terry Francona’s staff Bere is leaving the Indians’ front office, where he spent the past nine years as a special assistant.
He retired in 2003 following an 11-season career pitching for the White Sox, Cubs, Indians, Reds, and Brewers. Bere was runner-up for Rookie of the Year and then made the All-Star team at age 23, but finished with a 5.14 ERA in 1,111 total innings.
