After playing 16 seasons for nine different teams Jerry Hairston Jr. has decided to call it a career. Well, at least a playing career.
Hairston is retiring as a player and immediately becoming a member of the media, joining the Dodgers’ new television channel as a pre- and post-game host for 15-20 games.
Hairston is 37 years old and struggled in a part-time role with the Dodgers, so calling it quits isn’t surprising. With that said, as of about 24 hours ago he certainly sounded like someone planning to play in 2014, telling Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com:
And apparently that decision was “be on television.”
