Get excited, Rockies fans. According to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, right-hander Kyle Kendrick has been tabbed as the starter for Colorado’s Opening Day game on April 6 at Milwaukee’s Miller Park.
Jorge De La Rosa will be saved for the Rockies’ home opener on April 10 against the visiting Cubs.
Kendrick getting this nod points to the lack of quality starters on the Colorado roster. He registered a 4.42 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 4.9 K/9 in eight seasons with the Phillies before signing a one-year, $5 million free agent contract with the Rockies in early February. The 30-year-old probably isn’t going to enjoy Coors Field.
