Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman tore the ACL in his left knee during a bunt drill last week and Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports that he underwent successful surgery today.
The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews and Stroman is expected to miss the entire 2015 season. The 23-year-old had a 3.65 ERA with 7.6 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 across 20 starts and six relief appearances as a rookie last season and appeared primed for a breakout year in Toronto’s rotation, but that will all be put on hold until next year.
Below is a picture from Stroman’s Twitter account prior to the surgery. He’s staying positive under the circumstances:

With Stroman sidelined, Aaron Sanchez now appears locked into a rotation spot for the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, Daniel Norris and Marco Estrada are still competing for the fifth spot.
