Athletics corner infielder Mark Canha will undergo season-ending surgery to repair an impingement in his left hip, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Canha was placed on the disabled list on May 10, retroactive to May 9. He was hoping to avoid surgery.

Canha, 27, hit a meager .122/.140/.341 over 44 plate appearances. He emerged as a power threat last season, clubbing 16 home runs and 22 doubles in 485 trips to the plate. Canha further added value with his ability to play first base, third base, and both corner outfield spots along with occasional DH duties.
