In this afternoon’s series finale in Colorado, Dodgers starter Matt Magill posted one of the uglier lines you’ll see this season. In six innings of work, the right-hander allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits (four of which were home runs) and nine walks while striking out five. The line, as Eric Stephen points out, at least put him in the same conversation as Steve Carlton, surprisingly enough:
The last MLB pitcher to allow 9 BB & 3 HR was Steve Carlton in 1971 (10 BB, 3 HR). Matt Magill at 9 BB, 4 HR today

The outing bumped Magill’s ERA up to 6.38 on the season, making it easy for the Dodgers to demote him to make room for Yasiel Puig. The loss marks the fourth in the last five games for the Dodgers as they welcome in the Padres, Braves, and Diamondbacks for a ten-game homestand.
