The Mets placed starter Matt Harvey on the 15-day disabled list due to discomfort in his right shoulder, the club announced on Wednesday evening. Harvey was seen by team doctors, then referred to Dr. Thompson in St. Louis for an examination on Thursday, the Mets explained.

This is about as good timing as the Mets could get with the injury news with the All-Star break coming up. Harvey was hit around in his last start on Monday against the Marlins, serving up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and no walks with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. That bumped his ERA up to 4.86 with a 76/25 K/BB ratio in 92 2/3 innings.

It seems like the Mets are running the gauntlet of injury news. They recently learned that Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz are both dealing with bone spurs in their respective pitching elbows. The Mets could get Zack Wheeler back after the All-Star break, which would be a boon.
