After not playing in the majors at all last season Miguel Tejada has made the Royals’ Opening Day roster at age 38.
Tejada hit .353 in 15 spring training games and also played regularly for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, but he hit just .259 with a .621 OPS in 35 games at Triple-A for the Orioles last season, hasn’t topped a .700 OPS in the big leagues since 2009, was brutally bad for the Giants in 2011, and ceased being capable of playing shortstop years ago.
Presumably he’ll have a limited role as a utility infielder, but Kansas City will pay him $1.1 million and he can earn another $200,000 in bonuses based on playing time.
