Mike Trout entered Sunday afternoon’s game against the Rangers tied with teammate Albert Pujols for the major league lead in home runs at 29. He exited with 31. His second home run was a grand slam that pushed the Angels’ lead to 8-2 in the sixth inning against reliever Spencer Patton.
As our own Drew Silva pointed out on Twitter, Trout is on pace for 51 home runs, which would more than exceed his current career-high of 36. Along with 31 dingers, he’s knocked in 64 runs, stolen 10 bases, and hit .313/.404/.631 in what could very well be another MVP Award-winning season.
