Jon Paul Morosi is a former Tigers beat guy, and he’s been hounding his Detroit sources these past few days. The verdict? Nothing. Nada. Bupkis. Which is something of a shock, given that the Tigers allegedly gave our favorite unemployed left fielder a two-year, $14 million offer.
You’d think he would have jumped all over that by now, now? I mean, it’s leaps and bounds better than anything the Braves, Rays or White Sox are offering, if indeed any of them have offered him anything at all. An offer that certainly represents the best thing he’ll see this winter and -- since it matches the last best offer he got from the Yankees -- allows him and his agent to save serious face.
Unless of course Buster Olney’s report from last weekend that the two year offer was full of quasi-baloney, floated by Mike Ilitch with the understanding that Damon would eventually only accept a one-year deal with the club was accurate.
