The Orioles inadvertently helped out the Angels by losing to the Blue Jays on Friday night. The loss, with two games left, means the Angels -- currently 98-61 -- will finish the season with the best record in the American League, which gives them home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Orioles are now 95-65.

Had the Orioles won, the Angels could have done the dirty work themselves by beating the Mariners, but the late game is meaningless for them now. The game is not meaningless for the Mariners, however, as they must win to stave off the Athletics clinching a ticket into the post-season. The 86-73 Athletics entered Friday night’s action two games ahead of the 84-75 Mariners.
