Orlando Cabrera was forced to leave Game 2 of the NLDS against the Phillies last night after aggravating a sore muscle in his left side in the fourth inning.
Cabrera was in noticeable pain after having to make a jump throw at second base to avoid a slide by Jayson Werth on a double play ball. It’s the same injury that limited him to just 38 games during the second half of the regular season.
Still, the veteran shortstop told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he hopes to play when the team returns home for Game 3 on Sunday.
“I saw the doctor and he said it didn’t look that bad,” Cabrera said. “We’ll see tomorrow how I feel. I think I will be able to play on Sunday.”
Paul Janish will continue to fill in at shortstop if Cabrera is unable to go.
