Pablo Sandoval sent to the disabled list

The Red Sox placed Pablo Sandoval on the disabled list with a strained shoulder today. They also said that they have outlined a conditioning program for him while on DL.

Worth noting that I could find no mention whatsoever of Sandoval hurting his shoulder anyplace on the internet before the DL announcement. He last played on Sunday, and had one at bat. He’s played in only three games total, starting one. It seems quite obvious that the real issue is that John Farrell has no desire to use him unless or until he’s in better shape.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a manager used the DL to simply get a guy out of his sight. Sandoval may be one of the more highly paid guys to ever get that treatment, however.
