Peter Bourjos will likely need hip surgery after the season
Peter Bourjos made certain to say that he’s currently feeling “good, normal, 100 percent” but the Angels center fielder also said today that he’ll likely need hip surgery after the season.
Bourjos told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times that he would’ve had the operation to repair labrum fraying during the offseason, except he didn’t undergo an MRI exam until around Thanksgiving and the recovery timetable is typically 6-12 weeks.
“It would have cut it too close to be ready by spring training,” said Bourjos, who explained that he’s had hip issues for 4-5 years now without it really hurting his performance. During that time he rose through the Angels’ minor-league system and established himself as one of the elite defensive center fielders in baseball, which seemingly would be awfully tough to do with a significant hip injury.
