Marte wound up missing a little under two weeks with a concussion. He was 1-for-12 (.083) with five strikeouts on his three-game minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis and owns a weak .255/.328/.385 batting line in 87 games this season at the major league level. The Pirates need him to be much more of a spark down the stretch as they try to stay in contention through Andrew McCutchen’s recent rib injury.
.@Pirates reinstate OF Starling Marte from 7-day concussion DL; place 3B Pedro Alvarez on bereavement list.
