Quote of the Day: Gary Shelton on pitcher wins

Gary Shelton of the St. Petersburg Times wrote his David-Price-for-Cy-Young-Award column today, and this passage made my head ‘asplode:

“Look, it is true that victories aren’t the most telling indicator of a pitcher’s success, but if wins don’t matter, why is it that most of the good pitchers have so many of them?”

Mr. Shelton: if victories are the most telling indicator of a pitcher’s success, why don’t the best pitchers have the most of them? Or do you really believe that Bob Welch’s 1990 season was the best pitching performance in the past 40 years?
