Rangers considering re-signing Drew Stubbs

Drew Stubbs

Drew Stubbs

The Rangers have discussed bringing back outfielder Drew Stubbs, but it would likely have to be on a minor league contract, per ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

Stubbs, 31, opened the 2015 season with the Rockies, but was released in August and signed with the Rangers a few days after. Between the two clubs, the veteran hit a combined .195/.283/.382 with five home runs and 10 RBI in 140 plate appearances. Only 26 of those came with the Rangers as he served mostly in a pinch-hitting role.

Stubbs hasn’t hit much outside of Coors Field but he can play all three outfield positions while providing average or better defense, so he still can provide some value in a depth role.
