Report: Giants met with Brandon Belt’s representatives to discuss a multi-year deal

CSN Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic reports that Giants GM Bobby Evans met with representatives of first baseman Brandon Belt on Monday to continue discussing a potential multi-year contract. Belt will be eligible for arbitration for his fourth and final year after this season, and can become a free agent after the 2017 season.

While the Giants aren’t under any pressure to sign Belt, doing so before the season starts might save them some money in the long run if he has a healthy and productive year. This situation is new to Belt, who said, “It’s weird because I haven’t been through this. I’m not sure I have expectations. You play it by ear. You talk with people you know, people you trust, people you’re surrounded by.”

Belt, 28 in April, hit .280/.356/.478 with 18 home runs and 68 RBI over 556 plate appearances. He missed the final two weeks of the season dealing with concussion symptoms.
