The Rangers have agreed to acquire OF/DH Carlos Beltran from the Yankees in exchange for minor league pitching prospect Dillon Tate and more, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
Beltran, 39, has put together a strong season, batting .304/.344/.546 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 387 plate appearances for the Yankees. With the Rangers, Beltran could find himself in the outfield, at DH, or even at first base. The veteran can become a free agent after the season.
Tate, 22, was the Rangers’ first round pick -- fourth overall -- in last year’s draft. He’s had a tough 2016, putting up a 5.12 ERA with a 55/27 K/BB ratio in 65 innings with Single-A Hickory. MLB Pipeline rated Tate as the fifth-best prospect in the Rangers’ system.
We’ll make an update when the other player(s) involved is/are known. The Rangers may also have another trade in the works involving Joey Gallo.
