The Seattle Mariners announced today that Robinson Cano will play for Triple-A Tacoma tonight, beginning his rehab assignment in preparation for his return from his PED suspension.

Cano is eligible to return to big league action on August 14. It is unclear what his role will be for Seattle -- he’s been working out at first and third base down in the Dominican Republic -- but they could certainly use his bat. When Cano was suspended he was batting .287/.385/.441 in 39 games and, at the moment, Seattle is out of the playoff picture, having fallen behind the Athletics for the second wild card.
