Roy Halladay starts off with five hitless innings

After 5 1/2 innings, the Phillies remain ahead of the Reds 4-0, with Roy Halladay having thrown five hitless innings. Positively cruising, Halladay threw just 10 balls to 14 hitters before walking Jay Bruce with two outs in the fifth and giving the Reds their first baserunner. Here’s the inning-by-inning breakdown: 1st - 10 pitches, 7 strikes, 3 balls 2nd - 12 pitches, 10 strikes, 2 balls 3rd - 9 pitches, 8 strikes, 1 ball 4th - 12 pitches, 10 strikes, 2 balls 5th - 18 pitches, 11 strikes, 7 balls At 61 pitches through five innings, Halladay is definitely in position to go the distance. The Reds probably won’t let him face another pitcher tonight, but with Jim Edmonds out of the mix, their bench is far from scary.
