Rusney Castillo suffers left side injury

A mix of Red Sox major leaguers and minor leaguers swept Northeastern University and Boston College in an exhibition doubleheader at the club’s spring training complex Tuesday in Fort Myers, Florida.

It was a successful afternoon in pretty much every way at Fenway South. Except maybe one ...

Sean McAdam of CSNNewEngland.com says outfielder Rusney Castillo “felt some soreness in his left side after his final at-bat” against Boston College and will pay a visit to the Red Sox medical staff Wednesday morning when he reports back to camp.

There doesn’t seem to be a ton of concern about the discomfort coming from the Red Sox, but Castillo is in a battle for the starting center field job with Mookie Betts and can’t afford to miss time. Betts started the first game Tuesday against Northeastern and Castillo started the second game versus BC.

A trade of Shane Victorino would of course free up jobs for both Betts and Castillo.
