Called up earlier in the day, Lew Ford was added right to Baltimore’s lineup Sunday and went 0-for-3 with a walk and an outfield assist in his first major league game in five years.
Ford threw out Yoenis Cespedes at second as part of the Orioles’ 6-1 win over the A’s on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Ford played in Japan, the Atlantic League and in Mexico after being let go by the Twins after the 2007 season. In five seasons with Minnesota, he hit .272/.349/.402. He had his best season in 2004, hitting .299/.381/.446 with 15 homers and 20 steals. The Orioles called him up after he hit .331/.390/.550 in Triple-A this year.
