San Diego Padres v St Louis Cardinals - Game Two

ST. LOUIS, MO - JULY 20: Jedd Gyorko #3 of the St. Louis Cardinals celebrates after hitting his second home run of the night against San Diego Padres in the fifth inning in the second game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium on July 20, 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri. Hanley Ramirez had quite a night, eh? Three homers. Drew Pomeranz, not so much. But I guess you don’t need much of a night when you get that much run support and you’re facing what’s left of Matt Cain and the reeling Giants.

Jedd Gyorko of the Cardinals had three homers yesterday. One in the first game of the doubleheader, two in the second, so it doesn’t get as much press, but his day was still spiffy as heck.

In other news, Anthony Rizzo hit a couple of big flies himself. Tyler Naquin hit two for Cleveland. Leonys Martin hit two for the Mariners. Ryan Schimpf hit two for the Padres, splitting his up between games of the doubleheader like Gyorko did. Bryce Harper hit one but it was a long one. Josh Donaldson drove in three and hit his 24th homer. Chris Archer struck out 11 batters in six innings. Could he be auditioning for the Dodgers, who are suffering from Kershaw deficit disorder? Michael Pineda tossed six shutout innings against the Orioles, kind of messing up that whole Yankees fire sale plan. Which, dudes, when you see what the Mariners got in a trade for Mike Montgomery has to bug the heck out of the longer-term thinkers in the Yankees Universe.

Oh well. Today is a new day. They can always lose to Baltimore today. The scores:
