Why San Diego would balk at that I have no idea. They are not poised to be competitive with L.A. any time soon so that whole “in the division” thing wouldn’t figure to be much of an issue. Also worth noting that the Padres’ current GM-by-committee and the shelf life of relief pitchers means that no one would be likely to live long in their current positions if such a trade were to happen.

Or, perhaps, it’s just leverage by the Padres to try to get the Dodgers to overpay.
