A source confirmed to SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo that the White Sox are promoting pitching prospect Carson Fulmer to the major leagues on Friday as the club opens up a three-game series against the Angels. That confirms what Jesse Burkhart of MLB Pipeline and FanGraphs heard on Thursday and what Dave Williams of Barstool Sports reported just after midnight on Friday.
Fulmer, 22, was drafted by the White Sox in the first around -- eighth overall -- in last year’s draft. He has spent this season with Double-A Birmingham, posting a 4.76 ERA with a 90/51 K/BB ratio in 87 innings. Fulmer made an appearance in the Futures Game on Sunday, pitching a perfect seventh inning, striking out Francisco Mejia and Dilson Herrera.
Fulmer is rated the club’s best prospect and 33rd overall in baseball according to MLB Pipeline. He throws a fastball in the mid- to high-90’s with a power curve as well as a change-up.
The White Sox will have Fulmer pitch out of the bullpen initially, Cotillo notes.
