Tigers not ruling out bringing back Max Scherzer

MLB.com’s Jason Beck reports that the Tigers have not ruled out bringing back free agent starter Max Scherzer, despite prevailing thought that he is out of their price range. In the past, Tigers owner Mike Ilitch has rewarded productive Tigers players, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him break out the checkbook once again.

Scherzer is believed to be drawing interest from the Red Sox, Giants, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Cubs, Cardinals, and Angels. He is also estimated to potentially take home close to $200 million on a six- or seven-year deal. Jon Lester has taken home the most money thus far after signing a six-year, $155 million deal with the Cubs.

Scherzer, 30, followed up his Cy Young 2013 season with another strong showing for the Tigers, leading the league with 18 wins while sporting a 3.15 ERA and a 252/63 K/BB ratio in 220 1/3 innings.
