Tim Hudson can resume baseball activities in four months

Braves starter Tim Hudson had surgery last night to fix a fractured fibula and the deltoid ligament in his right ankle, per the Braves official Twitter. Hudson suffered the injuries on Wednesday covering first base on a ground ball hit by Eric Young, Jr. Young awkwardly stepped on Hudson’s foot, causing the injury.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Marvin Royster in Atlanta, Ga. Hudson is expected to begin baseball activities in approximately 4 months.

Hudson’s 2013 season ends after 21 starts spanning 131.1 innings with a 3.97 ERA, his seventh consecutive season in which he finished with an ERA below 4.00. Now 38 years old, Hudson is eligible for free agency after the season.
