Twins claim C.J. Cron on waivers

The Minnesota Twins have claimed 1B/DH C.J. Cron off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Cron was designated for assignment by the Rays last week despite hitting a career-best 30 homers with a .253/.323/.493 batting line over 140 games in 2018. A lot of that, of course, has to do with just how cheap life is for corner types with little defensive value in this day and age. Cron made $2.3 million in 2018 and, with two years of team control remaining, will get a raise, but too much of one for the Rays to stomach.

The Twins, though, could certainly use a guy like that, so the Rays’ loss will be their gain.
