Per Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Twins GM Terry Ryan could see top prospect Byron Buxton making his major league debut in 2015. Ryan said, “I don’t see him breaking camp with us but I do see may surfacing in the major leagues in 2015.”
Buxton, 21, was the consensus #1 overall prospect entering last season. His progress was stunted, however, as he suffered a rash of injuries during the course of 2014, starting with a wrist injury in March. He reinjured the wrist sliding into third base in May. In August, Buxton collided with his teammate in the outfield in his first game at Double-A and had to be taken off on a stretcher. In October in the Arizona Fall League, Buxton suffered a dislocated finger which required surgery.
Buxton will likely begin the 2015 season with Double-A Chattanooga but expect the Twins to be aggressive with his progression as long as he’s healthy and productive.
