Video: Drew Butera flubs on pitch in the dirt

It’s no secret that hitting well depends wholly on timing. During the Royals’ 6-3 loss on Saturday, catcher Drew Butera was schooled in hitting fundamentals by Cleveland right-hander Cody Allen.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, with one out and a three-run deficit looming over Kansas City, Butera saw a knuckle curve leave Allen’s glove. His guess as to the ball’s landing place was a little off, to say the least.

Butera, a decent hitter in most respects, probably deserves a pass for his uncharacteristic flail. That doesn’t mean, however, that we can’t watch it over and over again:
