The West squad used a trio of two-run home runs to power past the East team in the Arizona Fall League’s Fall Stars Game on Saturday night. Gary Sanchez (Yankees) drilled a two-run shot off of Kyle Freeland (Rockies) in the fourth inning, Austin Meadows (Pirates) hit a two-run jack in the sixth off of Adam Ravenelle (Tigers), and Alex Blandino (Reds) went yard with a man aboard off of Corey Black (Cubs) in the eighth.
Also of note for the West, White Sox outfielder Adam Engel reached base four times on two hits and two walks. He displayed his speed in the fifth inning, reaching on an infield single to the shortstop. He stole second base, advanced to third base on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramon Torres.
Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar, serving as the West’s DH, had two hits and two walks. Profar missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing labrum surgery in February.
Lucas Sims (Braves) started for the West and allowed two runs on an inside-the-park home run by Austin Dean (Marlins). Sean Manaea started for the East and struck out four and walked one over two scoreless, hitless innings.
Sanchez was awarded the Fall Stars Game MVP Award. Along with his two-run home run in a 1-for-3 effort, he threw out two runners on the bases.
