White Sox add Joe McEwing, Mark Parent to Robin Ventura’s coaching staff

Pitching coach Don Cooper and first base coach Harold Baines are staying with the White Sox despite the manager switch from Ozzie Guillen to Robin Ventura and Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports that Joe McEwing and Mark Parent will soon join Ventura’s staff.

Parent is expected to serve as Ventura’s bench coach, which is an important role given his total lack of managing experience, and McEwing is slated to be the White Sox’s third base coach. Hitting coach remains open following Greg Walker’s resignation, with Padilla reporting that Jeff Manto and Tim Laker are the leading candidates.

Parent played 13 seasons in the majors as a backup catcher, retiring in 1998. McEwing’s nine-year career as a utility man ended in 2006 and he played with Ventura on the Mets in 2000 and 2001. He spent this season as the White Sox’s Triple-A manager.
