Designated for assignment by the Nationals last week, 24-year-old outfielder Eury Perez has been claimed off waivers by the Yankees.

Perez struggles to control the strike zone and lacks power, but he’s hit .310 with 63 stolen bases in 193 career games at Triple-A. And overall in the minors he’s hit at least .300 in each of the past three seasons.

Washington cut Perez loose after claiming light-hitting shortstop Pedro Florimon off waivers from Minnesota, with general manager Mike Rizzo saying they wanted to add infield depth and felt comfortable with the outfield depth.
