The Yankees are still waiting for free agent Nick Swisher to pass a physical, but when he does, they are expected to finalize a minor league contract and assign Swisher to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, George A. King III of the New York Post reports. It’s not a given that Swisher will pass it, given his knee issues.

Swisher, 35, is expected to serve as first base depth in the event Mark Teixeira suffers another injury. King, however, quotes a scout who watched Swisher during spring training who said, “His legs are gone.”

GM Brian Cashman, who also saw Swisher play against his Yankees during spring training, is still a believer. Cashman said, “He still put together quality at-bats and can play first base.”
