Todd Hollandsworth (stress fracture of right shin) still hopes to be activated in early September when rosters expand.
He had hoped to return long before then, but his leg injury turned out to be muhc more severe that first believed. Hollandsworth will have to play a number of games at Triple-A Iowa before the Cubs are convinced he is healthy enough to help them.
  • About his injured leg, Todd Hollandsworth said, “There’s still an outstanding shot I can get back for enough games to make a contribution.”
The nerve damage is gone, and Hollandsworth is now dealing with only residual soreness.
  • Todd Hollandsworth still is wearing a cast as the Cubs try to get his injured right shin healed.
It’s possible Hollandsworth will be back by early September.
  • Todd Hollandsworth has been dropped to eighth in the Marlins lineup.
When you have a 642 OPS with no homers and two RBI (one of which came on a bases-loaded walk), that’s where you hit in the NL. Hollandsworth does have two stolen bases for the run-crazy Marlins, and they keep putting him out there because they like his defense, so he’s not without value in NL-only leagues. However, his RBI totals aren’t bound to get much better from that spot in the order.
  • Todd Hollandsworth is expected to be available Tuesday.
Hollandsworth is day-to-day with a sprained wrist.
  • Todd Hollandsworth is guaranteed $900,000 under the terms of his one-year deal with the Cubs.
The amount could rise to $1.2 million based on how much time he spends on the active roster and $1.7 million with incentives.
  • Todd Hollandsworth continues to have lingering pain in his right shin.
His return date still isn’t known. At this point, the Cubs might wait until rosters expand to try to get him back in the lineup.
  • Todd Hollandsworth still hopes to return this season.
Hollandsworth is currently sporting a cast on his injured leg. The next step, according to Hollandsworth, is to remove the cast and have another MRI, mostly likely Aug. 23. A rehab assignment, if possible, would follow shortly thereafter. “If the MRI says everything is OK, the rest that I’ve just been in (with) this thing for two weeks is going to get me over the top. I know that it will,” Hollandsworth said. “I felt like I was 75 percent of the way where I needed to be even when I went into the cast.” If you have faith in his diagnosis, Hollandsworth could be back in September to help the Cubs in the stretch run."I figured two weeks of complete immobility, really. I just needed to reproduce my leg real quick, in about a week, eight days, nine days — whatever time I’ve got left before Sept. 1. Then I’ll be back. That’s my goal right now.”
  • Todd Hollandsworth was unavailable Thursday because of a stiff back.
    Hollandsworth is day-to-day.
  • Todd Hollandsworth is not sure when he’ll be able to return.
The Cubs want to avoid putting him on the DL, but they may not have a choice. Hollandsworth is wearing a bandage on his bruised shin.
