One Swede has firmed up his GP2 Series plans for 2016, while another Swede has confirmed he won’t be in the championship.

Gustav Malja was announced as Rapax’s second driver on Tuesday, alongside Arthur Pic. The 20-year-old ran a partial GP2 campaign with Trident and Rapax last year, with one point achieved in five starts. He also finished ninth in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

“This is an incredible opportunity, and I’m just thrilled that my preferred option for 2016 has now become a reality. Racing in GP2 this season will be a massive challenge, but also a real pleasure and something I can’t wait to do,” Malja said.

Meanwhile Felix Rosenqvist, whose future for 2016 is a hot topic having tested in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires and raced the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Starworks Motorsport, has ruled out GP2 for this season.

Rosenqvist said Wednesday while he won’t be in GP2, he should be announcing his plans soon.

He’s tested for the Belardi Auto Racing and Team Pelfrey teams this offseason.

The GP2 grid, meanwhile, has eight seats remaining: two apiece at Status Grand Prix, Carlin, Arden International and the 13th-placed TBA team.
