Power fastest again in St. Petersburg third practice
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - It was a largely uneventful third practice before qualifying for the Verizon IndyCar Series’ Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, with Will Power again leading the way in his No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.
Power’s best time of 1:00.8965 led the way ahead of the fastest Honda, Jack Hawksworth in the No. 41 ABC Supply Co. Honda.
Hawksworth also dipped below the 1:01 range, at 1:00.9798.
The full 22-car field was within one second, 0.9923 around the 1.8-mile street circuit of St. Petersburg.
Ryan Hunter-Reay briefly stopped on track in the No. 28 DHL Honda, out of fuel entering Turn 10 on a short fuel run. All was good though and he returned to the pits with no issues.
Simon Pagenaud also had a run-off, long at Turn 10, but also resumed.
Times are below. Qualifying is at 3:40 p.m. ET and local time and will be live streamed online on IndyCar.com.
