_W2I0594-1

Alexander Rossi led the second practice session for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix this afternoon, with a lap of 1 minute, 15.1367 seconds around the 2.35-mile Belle Isle Park street circuit.

The Andretti Autosport driver, who won INDYCAR’s last street race in Long Beach in April, led Josef Newgarden (1:15.6641) by nearly half a second.

Scott Dixon, fastest in first practice, was third-fastest in this session (1:15.7824). Will Power (1:15.8713) and Graham Rahal (1:16.0757) followed him as fourth and fifth fastest, respectively.

The session ended under the red flag, when Indianapolis 500 champion Simon Pagenaud made contact with the wall in Turn 12 and broke a tow-link. Pagenaud then stalled his engine, triggering the red flag with three minutes left in the session.

Qualifying for Race #1 of the doubleheader weekend in Detroit is tomorrow morning, with live coverage beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Gold. A tape-delayed broadcast of qualifying will air on NBCSN at Noon ET.

Live coverage of Race #1 in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
