Aric Almirola tops second Las Vegas test session

While most drivers, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr., had positive reviews for the new low downforce package used last weekend at Atlanta, the question remains as to how it will fare in Vegas.

Aric Almirola was the fastest driver in the three-hour long test session the Sprint Cup Series conducted Thursday at Las Vegas Motor SPeedway

The No. 43 posted a top speed of 192.940 mph during its 30 laps around the 1.5-mile track.

Filling out the top five was Austin Dillon (192.658), rookie Ryan Blaney (191.659), Kurt Busch (191.381) and Greg Biffle (189.800).

Jimmie Johnson, who led the first two-hour session, was 12th fastest.

The session was slowed about an hour in when Denny Hamlin got loose and wrecked. The Dayton 500 champion will have to go to a backup car.
