Hamlin, Elliott fastest in final Sprint Cup practice at Bristol

Denny Hamlin was back to the top of the speed charts in Saturday’s final Sprint Cup practice session at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The 2016 Daytona 500 winner was the only driver to exceed 126 mph, clocking a field-best speed of 126.129 mph in the final tuneup for Sunday’s Food City 500.

Hamlin also was fastest in the first of three overall weekend practice sessions on Friday.

Chase Elliott was second-fastest at 125.823 mph, followed by Martin Truex Jr. (125.749), Food City 500 polesitter Carl Edwards (125.691) and Kyle Busch (125.395).

Busch is seeking his third consecutive Sprint Cup victory in Sunday’s race.
